L and L Law Group provides four interactive criminal-defense tools used by clients and other practitioners across DFW: a DWI bond calculator, a Texas sentencing range lookup, a character letter generator, and an expunction eligibility checker. Each runs entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server, no account is required, no email is collected. The tools are designed as starting points for attorney consultation, not as substitutes for legal advice.
What the tools do, individually
DWI Bond Calculator
Estimates likely bond amount on Texas DWI charges (first offense Class B/A, second offense, felony DWI, intoxication assault, intoxication manslaughter) based on jurisdiction, BAC, and prior history. Outputs a typical range, not a guaranteed amount.
Texas Sentencing Range Lookup
Returns the statutory punishment range for any Texas Penal Code offense classification (Class C, B, A misdemeanor; state-jail, third, second, first-degree felony; capital). Includes enhancement multipliers under §§ 12.42 and 12.43.
Character Letter Generator
Drafts a character-reference letter template for use at sentencing, plea hearings, or pretrial-diversion applications. Customizable by relationship (employer, family, neighbor) and the specific qualities to emphasize. Output is plain text, not legal advice.
Expunction Eligibility Checker
Runs a checklist of the Tex. Code Crim. Proc. ch. 55 (expunction) and Tex. Gov’t Code ch. 411 (non-disclosure) eligibility rules. Returns “likely eligible” / “possibly eligible — consult counsel” / “not eligible” based on case disposition and offense type.
Why we built these tools
Three operational reasons. First, the most common criminal-defense intake questions are quantitative and procedural: How much will my bond be? What’s the punishment range on this charge? Can I get this off my record? These questions have factual answers that the public can verify before deciding whether to retain counsel. Tools that surface those answers reduce the friction of seeking legal help. Second, the tools serve a teaching function within our own practice — we share them with clients to walk through case analysis together, and we share them with bar-association CLE attendees to demonstrate calculation workflows. Third, the tools surface our analytical framework publicly, which is part of how we earn referrals from other practitioners.
What the tools cannot do
The tools are calculators, not legal advice. They cannot evaluate the strength of the State’s evidence, predict prosecutor or judicial behavior, or account for the dozens of case-specific factors that determine actual outcomes. A DWI bond calculator returns a typical range; whether your bond is actually set at that amount depends on the magistrate’s evaluation of community ties, prior compliance, and the specific allegations. An expunction eligibility checker returns a statutory analysis; whether the District Attorney opposes your petition, whether the trial court grants it, and whether downstream reporting agencies actually comply with the order are all separate questions that require attorney involvement.
If a tool returns a result that materially affects your case planning, contact us for a free consultation to verify the analysis. (972) 370-5060, direct to attorney, 24/7.
Privacy and data handling
All four tools run entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. No inputs are transmitted to any server. No data is logged, stored, or shared. No account is required. No email is collected. The tools work offline once the page is loaded. We built them this way intentionally — criminal-case calculation involves sensitive case facts that should not be transmitted unnecessarily.
